Word up – Stand


Stand up – wstań.
Stand up for yourself – defend yourself verbally or physically.
Stand up comedy – funny guy with a microphone.
To be stood up – today we say ‘ghosted’ but it usually relates to a date in which one person doesn’t appear leaving the other ‘stood up’.
Stand down – resign from a position e.g. the prime minister stood down and we know who took over.
Stand in for – replace someone (often temporarily)who could not attend e.g. a meeting, as an actor in a play, in a job position, etc.
One night stand – a one time thing.
Stand together – when a group of people strongly agree and act together on an important matter.
