Word up – Five

  • To take 5 – is to take a short, 5-min break. So instead of saying:
‘Let’s take a break for 5-minutes’, you can simply say ‘Let’s take five’.
  • In the Uk, a fiver is 5 pounds – it is also referred to as a ‘Deep sea diver’ in
    Cockney rhyming slang.
  • A nine to five – is a standard job where you work between
    9.a.m. and 5 p.m. e.g. ‘I work a nine to five. How about you?’
  • The big five – this is used to describe the ‘must see’ wild animals on an African Safari: elephant, leopard, rhino, lion and buffalo.
