WORD UP – words and expressions with ‘Fall’


1. To fall out with someone – to have a disagreement and no longer be on speaking terms e.g Radek and Tomek fell out over a discussion about Politics.
2. You can fall in love.
3. If you encounter a very difficult situation a cannot manage it you might ‘fall apart’ – temporarily breakdown and feel hopeless.
4. Fall back on – rely on someone or something in a bad situation e.g. His business didn’t work out but his parents are rich so he can fall back on their help.
5. Fall about laughing – when you are incredibly affected by a joke or situation and cannot control your laughter and behaviour.
6. Fall asleep – basically the moment you go to sleep.
7. Free falling – the time you jump from a plane or building before pulling a parachute.
