Word up – Heaven


Heaven is supposed to be a place you go when you die – if you have been good and is considered a perfect place, therefore many expressions with heaven have this idea central to the meaning, for example:

  • A match made in heaven – a couple perfectly suited to each other.
  • A slice of heaven – a wonderful place or experience on earth.
  • Seventh heaven – a feeling of euphoria or intense happiness.
  • Good heavens – O rety, o ludzie, korka wodna e.g. Good heavens, is that the time?!
  • Heaven knows – who knows.
  • The heavens have opened – when it starts to rain.
  • For heavens sake – a light cuss said in frustration ‘For heavens sake just start the car and put your phone down’.
